Select one vitamin in each color category.  Purple, red and orange are required while green is optional, but recommended prior to surgery and for approximately one year following. 
 

The recommendations made on the below chart will vary between patients and should be seen as a guide.  It is recommended that you speak with your bariatric physician or nutritionist prior to making changes to your supplement program.

Approx. 6 weeks prior to surgery

1. Multi-Band—Most bariatric patients are vitamin deficient prior to surgery so a good  bariatric multiple vitamin is recommended for a minimum of 6 weeks prior to surgery.

2. Anti-OX—Either chewable or capsule would be appropriate prior to surgery.

0-3 months following surgery

1. Multi-Band—A good bariatric multiple vitamin is essential for patients with a restrictive procedure.  If chewable vitamins cannot be tolerated, Building Blocks liquid multiple may be used in the early post op period.

2. Calcium—Due to the reduced amounts of solid foods that a patient is able to tolerate, calcium is required for patients with a restrictive procedures. Building Blocks chewable calcium is recommended for the early post-operative period.

3. Iron—Available in 15mg or 30mg tablet or 30mg chewable.  While all of these options are appropriate, the chewable option may be the easiest to tolerate during this time-frame.

4. Anti-OX—Optional but recommended for the first year. The chewable form is recommended during this time-frame.

3-6 Months following surgery

1. Multi-Band—A good bariatric multiple vitamin is essential for patients with a restrictive procedure.

2. Calcium—Due to the reduced amounts of solid foods that a patient is able to tolerate, calcium is required for patients with a restrictive procedures.  Building Blocks chewable calcium is recommended for the early post-operative period.

3. Anti-OX—Optional but recommended for the first year. The chewable form is recommended during this time-frame.

6-12 Months following surgery

1. Multi-Band—A bariatric multiple vitamin is essential for patients with a restrictive procedure.

2. Calcium—Capsule is recommended after six months but any of our calcium options would be appropriate.

3. Anti-OX—Optional but recommended for first year. Capsule is recommended after six months but chewable is still appropriate.

1 Yr + following surgery

1. Multi-Band—A bariatric multiple vitamin is essential for patients with a restrictive procedure.

2. Calcium—Capsule is recommended but any of our calcium options would be appropriate.
