Taking your iron supplement as directed may be one of the most important things you do to have life long success when it comes to your nutrition status. We know weight loss surgery can be life changing for the better however, it also requires lifestyle changes that include taking supplements to prevent deficiencies that can be caused by the surgery.

Iron deficiency is the most frequent cause of anemia after bariatric surgery and it really is not uncommon for morbidly obese patients to have anemia or nutritional deficiencies even prior to surgery. Iron is an essential component of proteins involved in oxygen transport, it is also necessary for the regulation of cell growth and differentiations.
